Just because baseball – MLB baseball, that is – isn't going at the moment doesn't mean we can't fantasize about some dreamy potential World Series matchups.

Not only can we fantasize, but we can also wager and profit as MyBookie is giving us the opportunity to do so.

With that in mind, let's take a look at four intriguing World Series matchups – in no particular order – that not only hold entertainment value but also monetary value to boot!

4 Intriguing World Series Matchups Holding Valuable Odds

Chicago White Sox vs. Chicago Cubs (+24000)

To me, this could be the best combination of entertainment value and odds value there is to be had.

Of course, the entertainment value is obvious as the battle of Chicago would be a sight to see and despite each team winning one of the last 15 World Series championships, both would be hungry not to let this one slip away to a cross-town rival.

But where my intrigue here is with the odds value as those +24000 odds are looking rather appetizing considering each team's position as a potential contender this season.

For starters, it would take a $100 bet on this matchup to net a cool $24,000.

Despite a quiet offseason filled with both low-cost signings and trade rumors swirling around their superstar players – Kris Bryant in particular – MyBookie has the Cubs and Cardinals deadlocked at +225 to win the NL Central.

It's my opinion that the Cubs will indeed win the division with what I believe is the superior offense, a dynamite top-four in the rotation and a bullpen that simply cannot be worse than last year.

On the south side, the White Sox's offseason was a complete 180 from that of their cross-town rivals.

Chicago made several big splashes in adding catcher Yasmani Grandal and slugger Edwin Encarnacion in free agency while adding breakout candidate Nomar Mazara in a trade with the Rangers.

Add those three to a lineup that is chock-full of star-caliber players in youngsters Eloy Jimenez and top prospect Luis Robert, not to mention the muscle of Yoan Moncada and 2019 AL batting champion Tim Anderson. Oh, and the always reliable Jose Abreu was extended as well.

World Series Matchup Odds Ncaa Football

The rotation got upgrades behind their new ace Luis Giolito in veterans Dallas Keuchel and Gio Gonzalez on the open market while the team will give opportunities to high-upside youngsters in Michael Kopech and Dylan Cease.

To me, there's little doubt that the White Sox new-look offense could challenge the Twins for the best in the AL Central and could sneakily be one of the best groups in the junior circuit all together.

Thanks to their productive offseason, the White Sox have moved into a tie with the Indians as the biggest threat to the Twins in the Central at +275, behind Minnesota at -170. I believe it's much closer than that while other sportsbooks have the White Sox favored over the Tribe.

Nonetheless, the plethora of offseason win-now moves positions the White Sox as sure-fire contenders in the American League.

Add it up and I don't see why an all Windy City World Series is out of the question, and at +24000, I'm willing to give it a look.

Cleveland Indians vs. Cincinnati Reds (+24000)

There's two intriguing aspects to this one.

Ez baccarat app. For one, it's an all-Ohio World Series matchup, but the true intrigue comes from the outspoken Trevor Bauer potentially butting heads with the team that traded him away at last year's trade deadline.

Bauer is one of the loudest voices among players in the league as he hasn't been afraid to speak his mind on a variety of topics, ranging from a beef with the Houston Astros to calling out the commissioner himself.

No idea who made this new playoff format proposal, but Rob is responsible for releasing it, so I'll direct this to you, Rob Manfred. Your proposal is absurd for too many reasons to type on twitter and proves you have absolutely no clue about baseball. You're a joke.

— Trevor Bauer (@BauerOutage) February 11, 2020

It wouldn't be surprising in the least to see Bauer come up with some bulletin board material prior to this one going down.

Like the White Sox, Bauer's new club made some noise this offseason.

After loading up on pitching before and during last season, the Reds focused on offense this time around, adding some thump in the form of Mike Moustakas and Nicholas Castellanos on four-year deals.

That duo will join a Reds lineup with some potential as third baseman Eugenio Suarez finished second in the home run race with a surprising 49 long balls last season.

Add in the still-high-OBP bat of Joey Votto and a pair of outfielders in Jesse Winker and Nick Senzel who could surprise to the upside – not to mentioned Aristides Aquino who burst into the record books upon his promotion last season – and the Reds could slug in the hitter-friendly Great American Ball Park in Cincy.

They could also quietly have an elite top-three in the rotation in Bauer, Sonny Gray and Luis Castillo while they added to that group with Wade Miley coming off a pair of excellent campaigns.

The Reds are a hair behind the Cubs and Cardinals in the NL Central at +250 to win the division, but they're most certainly a threat at this point.

With the Indians, it's unfortunate to see the White Sox beef up in the offseason, but they remain in the worst division in the AL with the Tigers and Royals to beat up on at the bottom.

Matchup

They could also get to the postseason on pitching alone.

Mike Clevinger has turned into one of the best pitchers in all of baseball over the last three seasons, as you can see.

StatNumberMLB Rank
ERA2.967th
FIP3.3215th
K/910.3120th

Behind Clevinger is Shane Bieber who was on the outskirts of the AL Cy Young race last season thanks to a 3.28 ERA/3.32 FIP, ultra-reliable veteran Carlos Carrasco and a pair of youngsters in Zach Plesac and Aaron Civale who were excellent at the back of the rotation.

The Indians also had the second-best bullpen in baseball last season, but still fell short of the postseason due to their weak offense that will once again be the question mark again this season.

Nonetheless, if their pitching can hold up and get into the postseason, that rotation is going to be tough to beat, especially if the bullpen is lights out again.

I wouldn't sleep on this all-Ohio, Bauer-themed potential World Series matchup at these odds.

Los Angeles Angels vs. Washington Nationals (+22000)

The Nationals won the first World Series in franchise history in 2019, doing so in their first year without superstar Bryce Harper.

If they want to get back to the dance again this time around, they'll have to do so without another superstar in Anthony Rendon who they lost in free agency to… the Los Angeles Angels.

Indeed, this potential World Series matchup would pit Rendon again his old club after he was a major cog in their march to glory last fall, coming up with clutch hits and home runs along the way.

While the Angels' biggest need was in the rotation, they also had a gaping hole at third base and you can never have enough offense.

Rendon brings plenty of that to the table and combined with a quality glove, he's become one of the best players in all of baseball the last three seasons, as per his fWAR numbers.

Here are baseball's position player fWAR (FanGraphs' WAR) leaders over the last three seasons.

Now, the Angels appear to have a very nice looking offense when we add the best player on the planet in Mike Trout, a healthy Shohei Ohtani, Justin Upton, Albert Pujols as well as a breakout bat in Tommy La Stella and an underrated player in David Fletcher.

Questions still lurk on the rotation which is why the Angels sit at +550 to win the AL West, well behind the Astros (-185) and A's (+250).

While the rotation will get Ohtani back, the remainder of the group would likely consist of Andrew Heaney, Julio Teheran, Dylan Bundy and likely Griffin Canning, all of whom have questions marks in their track records, or lack thereof.

The Angels would need help from their bullpen and while they attempted to plug holes with the additions of Teheran (free agency) and Bundy (trade), it's a group that will need a combination of bounce back and career years from some arms.

Question marks certainly don't linger inside that Nationals rotation.

The team chose to retain 2019 World Series MVP Stephen Strasburg over Rendon in free agency, and he returns alongside Max Scherzer and Patrick Corbin to form arguably the best top-three group in baseball.

Don't forget about Anibal Sanchez either, as he was excellent for the Nationals down the stretch and in the postseason.

The Nationals rotation ranked right up there in most every category in 2019.

StatNumberMLB Rank
ERA3.532nd
FIP3.723rd
K/99.684th
WAR21.41st

Losing Rendon does hurt on offense, however.

Third base is now wide open between top prospect Carter Kieboom and veteran Asdrubal Cabrera, and first base consists of veterans Ryan Zimmerman and Howie Kendrick, who despite his postseason heroics, is no guarantee to be productive at the age of 37 by the time the season could start in July.

World Series Matchup Odds Against

The outfield has the most potential from a youthful, dynamic perspective with Juan Soto, Victor Robles and Adam Eaton all sporting combinations of power and speed while Trea Turner is about as dynamic as you get a short.

Where the Nats will look for the most improvement will be from their 29th-ranked bullpen that fortunately was hidden by the lengthy starts the team got from their top-four rotation members.

The Nationals bullpen pitched just 500.2 innings last season, the fewest in baseball, despite owning a pitiful 5.68 ERA, better than only the Orioles and their 5.79 mark.

Nonetheless, the Nationals rotation carried them to the postseason and World Series in 2019, and there's not much evidence to suggest they can't do so again this season.

If the Angels can get fortunate from their rotation and combine that with an improved offense with another superstar on board, the Rendon vs. his hold club could be one heck of an intriguing – and profitable – World Series matchup.

Boston Red Sox vs. Los Angeles Dodgers (+5600)

Now, let's take a step back from the profit side of things and focus on the intriguing aspect for a minute.

Potential World Series Matchups Odds

I mean, I'm not about to say that a $100 bet turning into $5,600 isn't profitable, but it's not on the same scale as the profits netted above.

This intrigue comes two-fold.

One, the Dodgers would be seeking revenge for their 2018 World Series loss at the hands of the Red Sox, a series that was won in rather ease by Boston in five games.

However, more so than that, you might remember a certain transaction between these two clubs of late.

Yes, the Bo Sox and Dodgers completed a blockbuster deal that sent Mookie Betts and David Price – along with cash – to Los Angeles in exchange for young outfielder Alex Verdugo, infield prospect Jeter Downs and catcher/infielder Connor Wong.

The #RedSox today traded OF Mookie Betts and LHP David Price along with cash considerations to the Los Angeles Dodgers in exchange for OF Alex Verdugo, INF Jeter Downs, and C/INF Connor Wong.

— Red Sox (@RedSox) February 11, 2020

For Boston, the move was about getting value for Betts before he entered free agency after the 2020 season along with shedding some portion of the Price contract.

For Los Angeles, it was yet another huge win-now move that they hope can put them over the top after two World Series defeats in the last three seasons.

The path the World Series is, of course, much clearer for the Dodgers than the Red Sox.

The Dodgers are the overwhelming favorites to win the NL West at -900, the big favorites to win the NL Pennant at +100 and the favorites to win the 2020 World Series at +285, although many sportsbooks have them and the Yankees in a dead-heat.

Nonetheless, it's clearly a World Series win or bust for the Dodgers.

For the Red Sox, expectations are understandably depressed after the Betts trade, but also due to the fact the team stumbled to a third-place finish and 19 games behind the Yankees in the AL East in 2019.

They'll have to deal with the Yankees and Rays in the east again on top teams such as the Twins, White Sox, Indians, Astros, A's and Angels for a potential Wild Card spot.

It won't be easy.

Still, crazier things have happened.

Chris Sale undergoing Tommy John surgery doesn't help, but I can't help but wonder if Eduardo Rodriguez becomes an ace this season, true in its form.

At 27, he should be entering his prime and he's coming off a 2019 season in which he went 19-6 across a career-high 34 starts and 203.1 innings, posting a quality 3.81 ERA/3.86 FIP with a 3.7 fWAR, also a career-high.

It seems like a nice springboard year for the left-hander.

That said, what they'll get from the likes of Nathan Eovaldi, Martin Perez, Collin McHugh and Ryan Weber behind Rodriguez remains to be seen.

World Series Matchup Odds Monday Night Football

If you think this offense can't mash without Betts, however, you might want to think again.

Rafael Devers is coming off some MVP consideration, J.D. Martinez remains one of the top power bats in the game and you can do a lot worse than Verdugo, Andrew Benintendi and Jackie Bradley Jr. in the outfield.

Christian Vazquez's bat improved behind the plate, Mitch Moreland continues to hit right-handed pitching and Michael Chavis burst onto the scene as a rookie in 2019 before regressing some as the season moved along.

Boston's offense remains legit.

If new manager Ron Roenicke can find a way to get his rotation and bullpen working in sync to keep the team in games, the offense could step forward and be the difference-maker.

World Series Matchup Odds Nfl

While the Red Sox are in tough to get into the postseason, the Dodgers are as sure-fire as it gets.

It could also be the most intriguing potential World Series matchup possible.
